28 January 2010 (Thursday)

Listening to some things I got from the library to check out:

David Byrne - "Everything That Happens Will Happen Today": Song 2(?) has a great guitar solo, the rest, while "interesting" goes in one ear and out the other.

Mick Taylor - "Mick Taylor": My friend Bjorn has been getting me into mid-period Rolling Stones so I decided to see what this Mick did after leaving the band. Very bland.

Uriah Heep - "Very 'eavy, very 'umble": As a heavy metal fan in my youth, I always heard of Uriah Heep as being one of the fathers of metal.  Until today I've actually never heard an entire Uriah Heep album all the way through.  I am struggling to make it all the way (curse the bonus tracks!).

Yesterday, I worked on a presentation while listening (again) to the "music to tan to" compliation you made. Thanks! Also, can't get track #3 from COTR out of my head!

Hi Jeff,

I'm glad you like that compilation so much. And "Chapter One" (song #3 by COTR) is one that everyone responds strongly to. Can you believe Ann Wilson came down and sang with them?!

Though I haven't updated this blog lately I've been listening to music as much as ever.

I forgot to say that I think David Byrne peaked with or shortly after leaving (or ruining, depending on the version of the story you accept) the Talking Heads.

I agree about the David Byrne burnout. Although, it must be said that some people really like his current explorations. So it's a matter of taste.

It seems like you would give him bonus points for being a dedicated bicyclist, non? He came to Town Hall a few months ago talking about biking.
