2 April 2010 (Friday)

Though it's been months since I've posted, that definitely doesn't mean I haven't been listening to music!  For whatever reason it just wasn't convenient to update this blog while doing so.

Today is the start to the long Easter weekend in the rest of the world.  Here in Seattle an unusually strong late winter storm is blowing in from the Pacific: it's blustery and the rain is beating down.

* Listening to a Prince bootleg "30 Years Of Unreleased Funk, Vol. 1".  I'm especially digging the alternate versions of "DMSR", "Something In The Water (Does Not Compute)", "Computer Blue" and "Superfunkycaligragisexy".  And "U Gotta Shake Something" is a great 15-minute funky jam!

* That bootleg inspired me to move on to the unreleased Prince album "Dream Factory" (pre-Sign O' The Times).

28 January 2010 (Thursday)

Listening to some things I got from the library to check out:

David Byrne - "Everything That Happens Will Happen Today": Song 2(?) has a great guitar solo, the rest, while "interesting" goes in one ear and out the other.

Mick Taylor - "Mick Taylor": My friend Bjorn has been getting me into mid-period Rolling Stones so I decided to see what this Mick did after leaving the band. Very bland.

Uriah Heep - "Very 'eavy, very 'umble": As a heavy metal fan in my youth, I always heard of Uriah Heep as being one of the fathers of metal.  Until today I've actually never heard an entire Uriah Heep album all the way through.  I am struggling to make it all the way (curse the bonus tracks!).

Low sky morning.

Tom Petty - "Live Anthology": Had never heard the song "Lost Without You" before; now it's one of my favorites!

Sloan - "One Chord To Another": I'm trying to decide whether to go see them at the Crocodile on 16 Feb.  Although I'm not too big on this album I'm inclined to go to the show because I like their more recent stuff.

Björk - "Volta

20 January 2010 (Wednesday)

It's a beautiful sunny mid-Winter morning in Seattle, but the blues are sounding so good!

Deltron 3030: "Deltron 3030" ; I totally dig the song "Postive Contact" (video, but the bass sounds way better on my stereo than on YouTube!).

The Harlem Experiment (aka The Philadelphia Experiment) .
